Understanding Disability Under the RPD Act

The Disability Support Council (DSC) follows the definition of disability provided by the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPD) Act. The Act describes disability as a “long-term physical, mental, intellectual, or sensory impairment that, in interaction with barriers, limits an individual’s ability to participate fully and effectively in society on an equal footing with others.”

The RPD Act recognizes a variety of chronic or long-term conditions as disabilities, encompassing a broad range of impairments. These conditions, when persistent, qualify individuals for support and recognition, ensuring they can overcome obstacles and engage equally in society.
