Biography

Maneka Nair Sastharam holds the position of Associate Professor and Vice Dean (Office of Student Affairs) at Jindal Institute of Behavioural Sciences(JIBS). She is also a Member of the Committee on Gender Sensitization Against Sexual Harassment (COGSASH). At JIBS, Prof. Sastharam is in charge of Attendance, Orientation and graduation, faculty mentorship programmes, student initiatives and student disciplinary committee.

Prof. Sastharam has multifaceted responsibilities which range from overseeing attendance, co-ordinating orientation and graduation ceremonies. With a steadfast commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive academic environment, she undertakes multifaceted responsibilities within the educational institution. She is in charge of developing the Faculty Mentorship Programme to ensure a connection between the teacher and the taught so as to help students achieve personal and professional growth under the guidance of their educators. She is also a member of the Student Disciplinary Committee in-charge of student initiatives and awards.

Research Experience

Prof. Sastharam’s research spans Constitutional Law, Environmental Law, and their intersection with policy and jurisprudence. More recently, her work has expanded to explore the legal and ethical dimensions of emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI). She examines the implications of AI on crime, governance, and human rights—interrogating how automated systems challenge traditional legal frameworks, and how regulatory models can adapt to ensure transparency, accountability, and fairness in AI-driven decision-making.

At JIBS, she teaches a diverse range of interdisciplinary and law-oriented courses, including:

  • Implications of Artificial Intelligence on Crime
  • AI Governance and Human Rights
  • Legal Aspects of Forensics
  • Drugs, Crime and Society

Her teaching examines emerging challenges in technology, crime, and human rights, fostering critical engagement with contemporary issues at the intersection of law, society, and innovation.
