Biography

Shilpa Bandyopadhyay is an Assistant Professor and Associate Dean (Capacity Building & Outreach) at the Jindal Institute of Behavioural Sciences, O.P. Jindal Global University. She qualified UGC NET-JRF in 2016 and holds a PhD in Psychology from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi). She is also a Gold Medalist in Applied Psychology from the University of Calcutta. In her doctoral research, she explored the aging experience, well-being, and the social media representation of older adults in the Indian context.

Her research interests lie in Geropsychology, Positive Psychology, and Interpersonal Relationships, and she aims to explore different facets of these areas in her research journey. She has previously worked as a Research Assistant and has contributed to several collaborative projects examining well-being in the Indian cultural context.

Shilpa has published her work in reputed international (peer-reviewed) journals such as the Journal of Religion, Spirituality and Aging, Frontiers in Psychology, Journal of Cross-Cultural Gerontology, and Journal of Aging and Environment. She has also presented at leading national and international conferences, and was awarded the Prof. Deepak Bhat Award for Best Presentation in a Scientific Session at the annual conference of the Indian Academy of Applied Psychology in both 2021 and 2022.

She currently serves as an Executive Committee Member of the National Positive Psychology Association (NPPA) and is also a member of the European Society for Research in Adult Development and the International Association of Applied Psychology (Divisions: Applied Gerontology, Environmental Psychology, History of Applied Psychology, and Work & Organisational Psychology).

At JGU, she teaches interdisciplinary courses such as Body Image and Mental Health and Creating Positive Workplaces to undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as core courses like Foundations of Applied Psychology for postgraduate students.

Beyond teaching and research, Shilpa has designed and delivered Management Development Programmes (MDPs) for various institutions including the Comptroller & Auditor General of India, the Central Tibetan Administration, the Common Services Centres, and educators from the Government of Bhutan.
