Biography

Dr. Irfan Fayaz is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the Jindal Institute of Behavioural Sciences, O. P. Jindal Global University (Institution of Eminence Deemed To Be University). He holds a Ph.D. in psychology from the Jindal Institute of Behavioural Sciences. His doctoral research adopted a mixed-methods approach to explore both pathogenic and salutogenic outcomes of adversity exposure among the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.

Dr. Fayaz is also an RCI-certified psychologist. He completed his M.Phil. in Child and Adolescent Psychology from Amity Institute of Behavioural and Allied Sciences, Amity University, with a CGPA of 8.76. He earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Rehabilitation Psychology (PGDRP) from the Composite Regional Centre, University of Kashmir, to further strengthen his clinical foundation. His academic journey reflects a deep commitment to understanding developmental and therapeutic psychology, especially within the context of trauma and vulnerability.

Experience and Research

Dr. Fayaz brings over eight years of experience as a mental health professional, working primarily with vulnerable populations exposed to traumatic and high-adversity environments. Originally from the serene Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, his lived experiences and professional training converge to inform a sensitive, nuanced approach to psychological practice and research.

Before joining Jindal Global University, he served as an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the School of Liberal Arts and Humanities, Woxsen University. At Woxsen, he was actively involved in teaching, curriculum development, and institutional building. His innovative pedagogy introduced courses like Reflecting Self and Existential Dialogue, emphasizing self-awareness, meaning-making, and introspection. These courses blended classical psychological theory with experiential learning and existential philosophy.

At JGU, Dr. Fayaz teaches core psychology papers and offers interdisciplinary electives such as Trauma from Sexual Violence and Coping. His academic and clinical interests lie at the intersection of trauma, resilience, and psychological healing. He continues to focus on both the debilitating and growth-oriented aspects of trauma, contributing to the expanding literature on posttraumatic growth (PTG), PTSD, and resilience in vulnerable and marginalized populations.

Dr. Fayaz’s research has been published in reputable journals, including Psychology, Health & Medicine, Journal of Aggression, Maltreatment & Trauma, and the Journal of Loss and Trauma. In addition to his publications, he is an active peer reviewer for several high-impact academic journals.

Dr. Fayaz has a Ph.D. in Psychology from the Jindal Institute of Behavioral Sciences, OP Jindal Global University, focusing on Trauma & Positive Psychology. His research focuses on the mental health outcomes in vulnerable populations, focusing on both pathogenic and salutogenic outcomes. His list of publications demonstrates a breadth of research interests, covering topics such as posttraumatic growth, posttraumatic stress disorder, suicide survivors, child neglect, sexual violence, and the impact of meditation on aggression and suicidal ideation. Dr. Fayaz’s active involvement as a peer reviewer for esteemed journals further showcases his dedication to maintaining academic rigor within the scientific community.
