Dr. Yogesh Mishra has an interdisciplinary background that includes studies in information technology, development studies, and sociology. Following an early professional stint in the financial services sector, he transitioned back to academia to pursue his intellectual interests. He holds a Master’s degree in Development Studies from IIT Guwahati and a Ph.D. in Sociology from IISER Mohali. His doctoral research focused the mundane, prosaic, and routine aspects of everyday life in Kashmir, focusing on how the ‘normal’ is constituted within conflict-affected settings.
Dr. Mishra has held a research fellowship at IIT Delhi in collaboration with Wageningen University. He has also been part of an international research team examining smart cities in India and South Africa, in a project jointly conducted by the University of Neuchâtel and University College London.
His research interests lie at the intersection of the sociology of everyday life, ethnographies of violence and resistance, and critical geographies. Drifting between spaces marked as rural, urban, private/public, or contested, his work explores the hidden struggles, negotiations, and acts of meaning-making embedded in the seemingly ordinary routines of daily life.
