Biography

Sakshi Ranjan has a strong academic and professional background in environmental law, human rights, and public policy. She holds an LL.M. in Environmental Law from Queen Mary University of London, where she graduated with distinction. Her postgraduate studies focused on the intersections between law, environmental governance, and sustainable development. Her research has explored critical themes such as ESG regulations in India, the fiscal implications of the Paris Agreement on developing nations, and legal frameworks for coal mine decommissioning. Her dissertation, which earned a high distinction, critically examined how mining-driven deforestation and climate change in India disproportionately impact tribal communities, highlighting legal and policy failures in protecting forest rights.

Sakshi completed her B.A.LL.B. in 2020 and has since developed a diverse legal and policy background through her work with organisations such as the Environment Research Foundation, International Justice Mission, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co. Her work has included developing climate mitigation projects, conducting policy research for international infrastructure investment banks, and supporting litigations involving gender justice and human rights law.

She has authored articles, committed to translating complex legal and policy issues into accessible public discourse. She has also written extensively on issues of communalism, refugee protection, civil liberties, and economic justice in The Citizen, ED Times and national dailies. She contributed a chapter, Navigating the Green Wave: Exploring ESG Regulations in India and SEBI’s Initiatives, to a book titled Sustainable Development Law: Principles, Practices and Policy.

With a strong foundation in both doctrinal legal research and policy-oriented advocacy, Sakshi is particularly interested in the role of law as a tool for enabling environmental justice and inclusive development. She continues to build her expertise at the intersection of law, governance, and rights-based frameworks to contribute meaningfully to academia, legal reform, and international policymaking.
