Biography

Bhavya Johari is a Lecturer at Jindal Global Law School, O.P. Jindal Global University, India, specialising in Public International Law and Human Rights. His academic portfolio includes additional roles as Assistant Editor for Jindal Global Law Review and Research Associate at the Centre for Human Rights Studies, reflecting his commitment to legal scholarship and human rights advocacy.

He completed his LL.M. (Master of Laws) from Melbourne Law School, University of Melbourne, with First Class Honours in 2025 as an Alex Chernov Scholar, receiving the Danny Sandor Prize in Children's Rights. This followed his undergraduate studies at NALSAR University of Law, where he graduated in 2024 with a B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) achieving Rank 1 as the top university gold medallist. He received 10 Gold Medals from the President of India, including the Best Student for Overall Excellence Award.

He has gained valuable experience across diverse jurisdictions throughout his academic and professional career. His international academic exposure includes a term overseas at Lewis and Clark Law School, US, where he attained Magna Cum Laude, and participation in the Winter School at the University of Tokyo, Japan. His professional experience spans multiple jurisdictions, including work with the London Court of International Arbitration in the United Kingdom, with an upcoming collaboration with the British Institute of International and Comparative Law, London. He has also gained experience with TMI Associates in Tokyo, Japan, and the Supreme Court of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia. His domestic experience encompasses positions with the Supreme Court of India, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and various district courts and law firms across different states.

Despite receiving a pre-placement offer from a tier-1 law firm, his passion for public international law and human rights advocacy led him to pursue an academic career. This commitment is reflected in his scholarly contributions to international journals, including the Notre Dame Journal of International & Comparative Law (United States) and the Journal of Animal Law, Ethics and One Health (University of Zurich, Switzerland). He has also contributed to platforms such as EJIL Talk! (Oxford University Press), Oxford Human Rights Hub, and International Law News (American Bar Association).
