Biography

Anwesha Choudhury is a Lecturer at Jindal Global Law School and is a legal researcher with expertise in corporate and commercial law as well as corporate crimes. She is also passionate about research in the areas of criminal procedure and constitutional rights with a focus on the intersections of state power, due process, and access to justice.

She served as the Project Coordinator for the TrialWatch Project,  a collaboration between Clooney Foundation of Justice, the National Law University, Delhi and Columbia Law School-Human Rights Project, New York which documents criminal proceedings against journalists across India. In this role, she led empirical and doctrinal research on systemic inequities, delays, and procedural abuse in criminal trials, building one of the first comprehensive databases on criminal prosecution of journalists in India.

Prior to joining academia, she served as a Law Clerk to Justice Anish Dayal at the Delhi High Court, working on cases concerning money laundering, terrorism, narcotics, and child sexual abuse. She has also practised before the Orissa High Court and worked with Senior Advocate Anish Dayal in New Delhi, representing clients in constitutional, commercial and arbitration matters.

Anwesha earned her LL.M. from Columbia Law School, New York, with a focus on transactional and corporate law, graduating with honours. She received her B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) from the National Law University, Delhi.

Her current research interests include corporate governance, empirical approaches to criminal justice, and the intersection of economic offences with constitutional rights.
