The 3-year Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice (B.A. in Criminology and Criminal Justice) programme is offered by Jindal Global Law School (JGLS). The programme has been designed in compliance with the latest University Grants Commission regulations with the aim of promoting a culture of scholarship and academic excellence among the students. The discipline of criminology is based on key tenets such as a comprehensive understanding of the criminal justice system, basic knowledge of criminal law, and a respect for the rule of law. Criminology enhances the criminal justice system by contributing to the effective implementation of criminal law. The School intends to create professionals in criminal justice who can help administer justice by upholding the values of the rule of law through this programme.

What Makes It Different at JGU?
  • This multidisciplinary programme offers students a comprehensive understanding of Criminology as a discipline within the Criminal Justice System. Through a combination of foundational and elective courses, as well as independent research projects, students gain insight into the diverse roles that Criminologists can play in the field.

  • Mandatory internships with regulatory authorities, law offices, psychology clinics, prisons, police academies, forensic laboratories, and other relevant institutions provide students with hands-on experience and help them explore various career paths. The Jindal Global Law School curriculum, combined with these internships, exposes students to the broader scope of the Criminal Justice System and its potential career opportunities, including higher studies.

  • Upon completion of the programme, students will have gained the knowledge and skills necessary to analyze crime, criminals, and the underlying causes and effects of criminal behavior from a wide range of perspectives.

Programme Structure

The B.A. in Criminology and Criminal Justice programme at JGLS includes both compulsory and elective courses. The compulsory courses aim to provide every student with a comprehensive understanding of the Criminal Justice System and Criminology, as well as fulfill the necessary requirements for admission to practice. The elective courses enable students to develop their interests and deepen their knowledge.

The courses are structured in a specific sequence, based on the programme’s philosophy and intended outcomes, in accordance with the UGC guidelines for undergraduate courses under the Choice Based Credit System. The courses are divided into four categories: Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses (AECC), Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC), Discipline Specific Elective (DSE), and Generic Elective (GE).

The first year of the programme is worth 54 credits, the second year is worth 56 credits, and the third year is worth 48 credits. The mandatory internships, which last for a minimum of 20 weeks, are worth 2 credits per semester (excluding the last semester).

To receive a B.A. in Criminology and Criminal Justice degree, students must earn at least 158 credits.

Eligibility & Selection Process

Applicants to the B.A. Criminology and Criminal Justice at JGLS must have successfully passed the examination at the 10+2 level of schooling from a recognised board. This course is open to students from any stream including Arts, Commerce, Science, etc.

*The Tuition fee, accommodation charges and other allied service charges are subject to an annual increase of ten percent (10%).

**The security deposit will be fully refunded, subject to the completion of studies and/or receipt of a ‘No Dues Certificate’. The security deposit shall not carry any interest.

To facilitate this, JGLS offers a range of geographically diverse and academically enriching Student Exchange programmes for one semester. These programmes offer students the opportunity to study abroad at one of JGLS’s partner institutions, spread across varying legal systems, and bring back a unique learning experience. The exchanges not only enrich students’ academic and professional lives, but also enhance language learning, intercultural skills, self-reliance, and self-awareness, making them citizens of the world.

Eligible students from JGLS spend a semester at one of our partner institutions across the globe, and the programme is revenue-neutral with respect to tuition fees.

Mentorship

Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) provides an academic support programme called the ‘LIFE in Law’ programme for students who face academic challenges. This programme is designed to assist students who need additional support in passing their re-sit examinations. The ‘LIFE in Law’ programme is a teaching-oriented program, with a focus on preparing students for re-sit examinations.

The programme is designed to cater to the needs of students who require assistance in academics. It provides a support system to help students overcome academic challenges and succeed in their studies. The entire programme is designed to be teaching-oriented, with a focus on preparing students for re-sit examinations.

Scholarship

Merit-cum-means scholarship shall be awarded to students qualifying for LNAT-UK/JSAT-Law/CLAT/CUET, subject to parental ITR criteria as defined by the university.
