The 18th World Congress of Criminology (WCC) was held from December 15 to 19, 2016 on the JGU campus. The three-day WCC was hosted by the Jindal Institute of Behavioural Sciences in collaboration with the International Society of Criminology (ISC). The central theme of the WCC, which was held for the first time in India, focused on criminological opportunities and challenges of the 21st century in light of the current trends in urbanisation, globalisation, development and crime. Panel discussions focused on issues including ‘Extremism, Terrorism and Warfare: Mass Violence and its Impact on Society’, and ‘Victimisation of Vulnerable Populations: Crimes against Women and Children’.

The Congress brought together leading academicians, researchers, professionals and policymakers from across the globe to engage in discussions and debates on the universal challenges faced in developing crime prevention policies for effective intervention and prevention. The Congress also featured some of the most important voices on the challenges faced by the criminal justice systems in developing economies and addressed critical issues surrounding criminological research in great detail.

The prestigious forum has been organised since 1938 under the auspices of the ISC.
